Breakfast in the Hotel. We will take you to the railway station to catch the train to Machupicchu. On arrival at Aguas Calientes there is a 25 minute bus journey to “the Lost City of the Incas”, discovered by American explorer Hiram Bingham in 1911. The ancient and marvelous city of Machupicchu is located on the left bank of the river Vilcanota and its name in Quechua means “Old Mountain”. Machupicchu may have been one of the residences of Pachacutec, the first Inca emperor, from 1438 to 1470. Nevertheless, some of the best buildings and the evident ceremonial character of the main access to the city show that it was a religious sanctuary. Machupicchu is also considered a masterpiece of architecture and engineering because of its singular building techniques and surroundings. Among its most important and unusual features are the Main Square, the royal apartments, the temple of the three windows, the circular towers, the sacred solar clock and the ceremonial areas. Your guide will explain all about this splendid city, making it a truly astonishing experience. After the guided tour you will go back to the city, and enjoy an excellent lunch, after that it’s free time.
Stay the night at your hotel.
Breakfast in the Hotel. Excellent opportunity to wake up early and enjoy a beautiful sunrise as well as taking a morning stroll by the Town of Aguas Calientes. Then, you will have time to do some of the following activities: (optional): Visit the Thermal Hot Springs or visit the Citadel of Machupicchu for the second time.
For the most adventurous people, we suggest for you to go up to the Huayna Picchu (if it’s not raining) from where you can appreciate the immensity of Machupicchu, an even more amazing vantage point as it is very high. Arriving at the top takes about two hours and a half and it must be before 1:00p.m. It is necessary to register in an office at the beginning of the trail. An exciting adventure for the travelers who want to see, from the top, the nature and the carved stone emerging from the ground as a geological miracle.
